After Ellie had left him and he had finished his call home and waking his family up to tell them the good news, James had been looking over the service jacket of One William Rogers who was to be his new Chief Helm Officer, as he knew that his senior staff was now beginning to take shape, as he yet to meet his Chief medical Officer and his Chief Engineering Officer.

Just then his door chime sounded, He called "Come" as he picked up his Mug and took a sip of the now warm Coffee, He thought oO I'm going to need a new drink Oo as the door opened as he looked up to see who entered his Ready Room.

Rogers smiled broadly as he stepped through the door, back parade ground straight. oO Play this one by the book till we get a feel for the new CO. Oo He thought to himself. He came to a stop in front of the commanders desk and stood to attention. "Lieutenant William Rogers, reporting for duty, sir."

As James rose from his chair and held out his hand, He said,"Welcome Lieutenant to the USS Churchill," as he knew that his senior staff was going to be learning to gel with each other, but he knew that his team would work. He asked," Would you like a drink Lieutenant?"

"Thank you, sir." Rogers replied as he shook the captain's hand. He endeavoured to make sure that his grip was firm, but not too firm. His eyes flicked over to the replicator for a quick second before he answered the question. "A glass of water please, sir."

As James walked over to the replication unit, He said, Please tell me a littler bit about yourself?" as he came to a standstill in front of the replication unit, oO I hope I get my chief engineer and Chief medical officer before we leave dock,Oo he thought as he tapped in a couple of commands as the replication unit voice commands were yet to be tested by Engineering.

"It's a bit of a long story, sir." Rogers watched his captain to see how well the joke would land, if it did at all. oO So much for keeping it professional. Why are you like this? Oo He chastised himself mentally. "Grew up poor in New York. Joined the Air Force as part of GenEng program, spend the war...sorry, you call them the Eugenics Wars part of a special ops squadron. When the war finished got tired of fighting but wanted to keep flying, so I moved over to the space program. Spent the next couple of centuries in cold sleep. I'll spare you the details on that. Suffice to say it was cold and I still managed to wake up tired." He grinned wryly. "Once I was okayed to reenter society I went through the Academy and got recruited by the DTI. Crewed their ships until I was transferred here." Remaining at attention Rogers awaited any questions the Captain might choose to ask.

"did you just say the Eugenics Wars?" asked James looking back at his helm officer, He continued," Please tell if you are argumented in any way?" as he needed to know now and not be caught out later on, as he waited for the drinks to arrive as he knew about Kahn from his school days. He thought to himself oO and this guy was there Oo as he wondered how bad it was back then.

"I did, sir." Rogers nodded his confirmation to the captain's first question. The second wasn't really a surprise either; the scars from the war, and Khan's subsequent actions, clearly ran deep. "I am, sir. Not to the extent or potency the Tyrants were, but it was still a significant number of experiments: The GenEng program increased my strength, reflexes, speed and endurance; increased the efficiency of my heart, lungs, liver and kidneys; and did something to my blood to try and improve my resistance to chemical and biological ordinance."

"So why now is it that you have been assigned to a starship?" asked James as he knew that he had better check with Admrail Jensen to find out if Starfleet knew about the Lieutenant's arguments and if so why hadn't they informed him of such a thing of one of his senior staff being from that Era.

"Your guess is as good as mine, sir." Rogers explained. "My transfer orders came joint from Starfleet Command and the DTI. I wasn't given an explanation. That usual in Starfleet, sir?"

Now this was a surprise, joint orders from both command and the DTI, He would have to mention this with the admrail and wondered if this was going to be a thing with his crew, as he leaned into his chair, he said," well then Lieutenant Welcome once more to the USS Churchill," he finished," Your dismissed,"

"Thank you, sir." Rogers turned and walked from the Ready Room. He hadn't missed that the captain hadn't even addressed his question. That certainly didn't make him feel welcome.
